Terms of Service
By accessing and using DataScrub (https://data-scrub.com), you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Description of Service
DataScrub is a free, browser-based data cleaning tool. It allows users to upload data files (CSV, Excel, ODS, JSON, TSV), apply cleaning and transformation operations, and download the results. All processing happens locally in the user's browser — no data is uploaded to any server.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By using DataScrub, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the service.
If you are using DataScrub on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.
3. Use of the Service
3.1 Permitted Use
You may use DataScrub to:
- Clean, transform, and format your own data files.
- Convert between supported file formats (CSV, Excel, ODS, JSON).
- Profile data quality and identify issues in your datasets.
- Anonymize sensitive data for privacy compliance.
- Merge, deduplicate, and restructure your data.
3.2 Prohibited Use
You may not:
- Use DataScrub for any unlawful purpose or to process illegally obtained data.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the service's source code beyond what is necessary for normal browser operation.
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the service in a way that places excessive load on our infrastructure.
- Use the service to process data that infringes on the rights of third parties, including personal data processed without a lawful basis.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise the service or its infrastructure.
- Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices on the service.
4. Intellectual Property
DataScrub, its design, code, branding, and all associated content are the intellectual property of Leon Hoscheidt. You retain full ownership of all data files you upload and process. We claim no rights to your data — we never even see it.
You may not copy, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from the DataScrub website or its source code without explicit written permission.
5. No Warranties
DataScrub is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
- The results obtained from using the service will be accurate or reliable.
- Any defects in the service will be corrected.
You use DataScrub at your own risk. It is your responsibility to verify the accuracy and integrity of any output data before relying on it for critical decisions.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Leon Hoscheidt shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of DataScrub, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities.
- Damages resulting from errors or inaccuracies in data processing results.
- Damages arising from inability to access the service.
- Damages caused by third-party advertisements displayed on the service.
Since DataScrub is a free service and all processing is client-side, our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the service (i.e., zero euros).
7. Data Responsibility
You are solely responsible for the data you process using DataScrub. While we have no access to your data (it never leaves your browser), you must ensure that:
- You have the legal right to process the data you upload.
- Your use of the data complies with applicable data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- You do not process data in a way that violates the rights of any individual.
- You maintain appropriate backups of your original data files.
8. Availability
We strive to keep DataScrub available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or technical issues without prior notice. Because the core functionality runs in your browser, the service remains functional even during server-side disruptions — you can continue using loaded tools offline.
9. Advertising
DataScrub may display advertisements provided by Google AdSense. These advertisements are clearly distinguishable from the service's content. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any advertised products or services. Your interaction with advertisements is governed by the advertiser's terms and Google's policies.
10. Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue DataScrub (or any part of it) at any time without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes. If the service is discontinued, your data remains safe — it never left your device.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of DataScrub after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Any disputes arising from the use of DataScrub shall be resolved in the courts of Siegburg, to the extent permitted by law.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you retain the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
13. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Invalid provisions will be replaced by valid ones that most closely reflect the intent of the original.
